Oh You're So Gorgeous

Watched the premiere screening of 'The Tourist' starring Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp yesterday at Cathay and I gotta say it was rather disappointing. Instead, what captivated my attention though was how stunningly beautiful Angelina Jolie looked in the movie.

I've always adored Angelina Jolie for her style and poise. She maintains a classy, elegant look that is timeless. Her sense of style is highly tasteful and never screams out more attention that it already deserves. I noticed that she sticks to 2 kind of looks -
(a) intense eye makeup, nude-coloured lips or
(b) very natural eye makeup, paired with siren red lips.

Both are gorgeous!!! and we mere mortals definitely can apply these techniques depending on these few considerations -
1) Occasion
2) Outfit
3) Day or night

Highlight One Feature At a Time
But most importantly, the makeup should be used to enhance YOUR features. Makeup shouldn't be applied like face paint so don't follow this make-up technique blindly. As for Angelina, her most outstanding features are her eyes and lips. Choose only to highlight one feature, not both at the same time, or you'll look like a street hooker from the 80s.

Nude Lips
Nude-coloured smackers are best paired with strong eye-makeup. Remember to give your pout a dash of gloss to infuse a glowing radiance. If you're not too sure about having pale looking lips, add a hint of colour by doing a 'Lip-Stain'. How to do a 'Lip Stain'? - Apply your fave lip colour as per usual. Then place a piece of tissue inbetween your lips and dab so that any excess lip colour is removed. Leave only a hint of colour on your lips. Don't forget to coat it with gloss. *muackss*

Cheeks
Every makeup and colour has its function. The function of a blusher is to highlight your cheekbones and define it better. This Hollywood beauty has high cheekbones and a strong jawline to define the shape of her face, thus she usually opts out the blusher or only applies the minimum. For these 2 looks - keep your blush muted. Just a little... barely-there blush, is more than enough.

Smokey Eyes
Angelina also knows (or at least her makeup artist does) that the 'smokey eye' look works awesomely on her, as it creates a softer, sexier look which compliments her sexylicious personality. Find a style that suits you best. Try out a few and see which gets most compliments from friends. Then stick to that style and wear it like a uniform.

Full Lashes
Also take note of Angelina's full lashes. Please don't be disillusioned. They are obviously fake lashes, but the trick is to make them look as natural as possible (unless you're going for the K-Pop dolly look). Lastly, take a closer look and you'll notice that Angelina only thickens the outer-end of her upper eye lids to accentuate the shape of her eyes, at the same time making her lashes look even fuller.

No woman wakes up looking 'red-carpet ready'. Not even Angelina Jolie. But use the makeup sparingly to enhance your beauty, not as a mask to make you look like another person. Learn to look closely at your facial features and appreciate them - button nose, chubby cheeks or slit-eyed, they are the gifts bestowed upon you. You just gotta embrace 'em and MAKE IT WORK.
